Help us Fundraise

The majority of funding for Opportunities for Otsego services and operations comes from federal and state grants. Grant revenue allows the agency to provide high quality, high-impact services; however, continuation of these funds can be impacted by budget resolutions, funder priorities, and competition. Grants funds are typically restricted; meaning we cannot offer services or client supports that are not specified within our contract with the funder.

Fundraising is a great way to support OFO as it gives us greater flexibility meet the unique needs of the community. If you would like to help us fundraise, consider the following:

  • Coordinate a fundraiser with friends, family, a community group, or co-workers. Private at-home fundraisers, donations in lieu of birthday or holiday gifts, painting parties, garage sales, or Facebook fundraisers are a great place to start.
  • Collect cash and in-kind (non-monetary) donations for a program of your choice. See our program Wish Lists for in-kind donation ideas.
  • Designate Opportunities for Otsego as a recipient of your SEFA, United Way, or other employer-based fundraising campaign
  • Inquire with your employer about a matching gift program
  • Donate a portion of event admission fees to OFO
  • Organize special business events (e.g. percent of sales promotions, dress down days, cause of the month) and donate a portion of sales to the agency
  • Volunteer at an OFO-sponsored fundraising event.

Bianca and Sophia, of Cooperstown, donated 185 children’s books and 117 stuffed animals to one of Opportunities for Otsego's early childhood classroom. Bianca and Sophia asked their birthday party guests to bring children’s books and stuffed animals to be donated instead of birthday presents.
