OFO Releases Community Needs Assessment

08.04.2025 - Oneonta, NY

Opportunities for Otsego is proud to announce the release of its 2025 Community Needs Assessment, a comprehensive report identifying challenges and conditions most impacting residents and stakeholders across Otsego County. This is the fifth edition of the report, published by the agency since 2011.

The 2025 edition incorporates community input gathered through online surveys and a solution-focused forum attended by 100-plus community partners representing a cross-section of Otsego County. The report evaluates key areas such as population trends, healthcare access, education, housing, employment, food security, mental health, transportation, and public safety.

Opportunities for Otsego Chief Executive Officer, Tanya Shalor said, "Since stepping into this role, I’ve prioritized building strong relationships with our community partners to better meet the needs of our clients. The Community Needs Assessment is one vital step in that process; helping us identify shared priorities and take coordinated action,” said Tanya Shalor, CEO of Opportunities for Otsego.

Opportunities for Otsego Planning and Research Director, Megan Martin said, "This publication reflects a shared commitment among our community partners and is a testament to what we can achieve together in support of Otsego County’s most vulnerable residents.”

Findings from the Community Needs Assessment play a critical role in guiding Opportunities for Otsego’s strategic planning efforts and shaping initiatives that address the root causes of poverty. Over the years, the report has become a key resource for local planning and grant writing by organizations and municipalities across Otsego County.

The 2025 Community Needs Assessment is available for public review and download in OFO's Press Room.
