7.8.10 - Weatherization is Now Scheduling Appointments

Opportunities for Otsego home energy conservation program, Weatherization, is now accepting applications. Households looking to reduce their energy costs and improve the safety of their homes can schedule an appointment between the hours of 8:00AM – 5:00PM, Monday through Friday.

Weatherization is a federally-funded program that assists income-eligible homeowners and renters in making energy saving improvements to their home. Improvements can include installation of insulation, weather stripping, sealing air leaks, cleaning and tuning home heating equipment, replacing broken windows and doors, or installing Energy Star® rated equipment, smoke detectors, or carbon monoxide detectors.

Program eligibility guidelines are set at 60% of the state median income or up to $3,903 a month for a family of four. Households receiving food stamps or SSI are automatically eligible.

Applicants must bring a fuel bill, an electric bill, and proof of income for the past 4 weeks to their appointment. Self-employed household members must bring proof of income for the last 3 months and proof of ownership.

Applicants over the age of 60 may apply with the Office for the Aging. Any home weatherized after September 30, 1994 is not eligible.

To schedule an appointment, call 607.433.8000 or 800.986.5463. Click here for more information on the Weatherization program.
