The Inn at Cooperstown and Krazy Tom’s Floor Store and Sleep Shop joined forces to help Otsego County’s homeless population. The Inn graciously donated 10 twin mattresses and 15 pillows to Opportunities for Otsego’s emergency housing shelter. Delivery of the bedding was provided free of charge by Krazy Tom’s.
"We always look for ways to give back and we're especially pleased to support Opportunities for Otsego" said Marc Kingsley, owner of The Inn at Cooperstown. "The fact that these mattresses will meet the needs of a local organization is a win for the community and the environment."
Jody West, Emergency Housing Supervisor added “The kindness and generosity of this gift will benefit many people during a difficult time.” In 2009, OFO housed 471 homeless individuals and prevented eviction for 79 households through its rental assistance program.
The donation of bedding was initiated from a conversation between Marc Kingsley and Liane Hirabayashi, OFO’s Housing & Employment Manager. Marc is an alumnus of Leadership Otsego, and Liane is a current participant, and their shared experience of the training program led to a discussion of how they could work together. Marc, who owns The Inn at Cooperstown with his wife Sherrie, then contacted Charlie Contro, owner Krazy Tom’s, who agreed to deliver the donated goods. “It’s literally a bedtime story with a happy ending,” said Hirabayashi. “We greatly appreciate this collaboration between the Inn at Cooperstown and Krazy Tom’s to support the homeless shelter.”
